Glendale, Bell Ring Up No. 9
Brendan Bell had three hits and drove in two runs to help Glendale College to an 11-5 victory over Ventura in a Western State Conference interdivisional baseball game on Tuesday at Ventura.
Bell hit a two-out, two-run home run in the third inning to give Glendale a 6-1 lead.
The Vaqueros (22-3, 13-2 in conference play), who had seven extra-base hits, won their ninth consecutive game.
Jordan Klock had two hits and scored a run for Ventura (8-15, 4-11).
Valley 1, Oxnard 0--Ismael Marin threw a four-hitter and pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning of a WSC interdivisional victory for the Monarchs (5-22-1, 4-11) at Oxnard.
Marin (3-5) struck out eight and walked two.
Oxnard (15-12, 9-6) loaded the bases with none out in the ninth, but Marin got a fly out, strikeout and forceout.
Valley’s run was unearned. David Lopez scored in the fourth inning when an errant throw from the outfield sailed into the Condors’ dugout.
Tony Sandoval had two hits for Valley.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Chatsworth def. Birmingham, 15-0, 15-3, 15-3--Paul George had seven kills and 17 assists for the Chancellors in a West Valley League victory at Birmingham.
Matt Gudis added seven kills for Chatsworth (6-1, 3-1), ranked No. 9 in the region by The Times.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Granada Hills 7, Taft 0--Nima Roshan beat Joseph Tchan, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles for the Highlanders (8-1, 5-1) in a West Valley League match at Granada Hills.
Crespi 10, St. Francis 8--Steven Bondy, Marc McNicoll and David Eskander swept in singles for the Celts in a Mission League victory at Fremont Park.
Grant 4, Sherman Oaks CES 3--Remy Salvador remained undefeated at No. 1 singles and the Lancers (7-2, 6-1) won a Sunset Six League match at Grant.
Camarillo 10, Oxnard 8--Jason Mossembekker did not lose a game for the Scorpions (9-2, 4-0) in a Pacific View League match at Oxnard.
El Camino Real 7, Birmingham 0--James Magsino, Matt Jones and Dan Nguyen remained undefeated in singles for the Conquistadores (9-0, 6-0) in a West Valley League match at El Camino Real.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Canyons 15, Valley 0--Rian Standley had three hits, including a bases-loaded triple, for the Cougars (21-10, 13-2) in a WSC Southern Division victory at Valley (8-16-1, 4-11) that was called after six innings because of the eight-run rule.
Lera Lazarus (7-1) pitched a two-hitter with two strikeouts for the Cougars.
