Fullerton Wins, Loses at Tournament
The Fullerton College baseball team split a pair of pool-play games Monday at the Fullerton Hardball Classic, beating East Los Angeles, 4-1, and losing to South Nevada, 7-1.
Freshman Dereck Schmidt pitched seven scoreless innings against East L.A. and allowed five hits for Fullerton (14-17).
In the second game, Ronnie Burkley hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for South Nevada (39-5) to break a 1-1 tie.
Grossmont 14, Irvine Valley 9--Fernando Cortez had five hits, scored twice, stole two bases and drove in two runs for visiting Grossmont (23-8). Scott Zine homered and was four for four for Irvine Valley (6-24).
