Marbley’s Leap Lifts Tustin
Alex Marbley cleared a state-best 6 feet 11 1/2 inches in the high jump for the second time this season, helping second-ranked Tustin to a 74-37 victory over Saddleback in Golden West League boys’ track and field.
Denny Casupanan’s 100-meter time of 10.8 was fourth best in the county and his 22-1 long jump tied for the county’s third best. Casupanan also won the 200 in 22.8 and ran the first leg of the winning 1,600 relay team for host Tustin (5-0, 3-0).
In the Serra League:
No. 3 Santa Margarita 75, Bellflower St. John Bosco 61--Scott Langford and Sean Zeitler won two events each and Brad Slinkard won the pole vault at 14-3, third-highest mark in the county this year.
In Serra League girls’ track and field:
No. 6 Santa Margarita 112, Lakewood St. Joseph 23--Santa Margarita’s Mandie Rowell won three events, including the pole vault with a county-best mark of 11-4.
In Serra League golf:
No. 2 Santa Margarita 183, Bellflower St. John Bosco 196--Taylor Wood posted a one-under 34 at Los Amigos Country Club for Santa Margarita (7-1, 2-1).
In the Golden West League:
Saddleback 11, Westminster 7--Westminster’s No. 2 doubles team of Khang Nguyen and Peter Vu won their sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1. Westminster is 6-7, 5-5.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 12, Fountain Valley 6--Freshman Ryan Malawy swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles for visiting Edison (7-10, 3-4).
In Golden West League boys’ volleyball:
Ocean View 3, Tustin 0--Jason Roth had 20 kills and eight blocks, Jack Hauck 14 kills and nine digs and Justin Roth 46 assists for host Ocean View (15-1, 4-1), which tied Tustin for first place.
Andrew Rifkin had 16 kills for the Tillers (8-3, 4-1).
