Giacomo Gentilomo, 92, Italian director and writer of 1960s sword-and-sandal movies. A master of Italian cinema, the Trieste-born Gentilomo was best known in the United States for such fare as “Hercules Against the Moon Men,” “Goliath and the Island of Vampires” and “Slave Girls of Sheba.” But in his long directing career, which began in 1937, he also produced higher-quality films such as the 1951 “Young Caruso,” which starred Gina Lollobrigida in a biographical drama based on the famous operatic tenor Enrico Caruso, and “The Accusation” starring Marcello Mastroianni. Before his first directorial effort, “Rome Symphonies,” Gentilomo worked as a movie critic, screenwriter and assistant director. On Monday in Rome.
