Pasadena Showcase

The cloudy skies disappeared just in time for Saturday’s black-tie premiere of the Pasadena Showcase House of Design, affording a spectacular view of Los Angeles from the terraces of the 1929 Italianate villa in the San Rafael Hills, built for Lyle and Arthur Thorsen, co-founder of the 100-year-old Walgreen Co. drugstore chain. This is the traditional Cinderella night for the members of the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts--the new name for the former Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee--who spent three months in jeans and sneakers to transform the house into the 37th annual fund-raiser for music programs for youth in the Los Angeles area. The Showcase is open to the public through May 20. For information, call (626) 792-4661.
