No Privacy in Public
With all the concern being voiced over the invasion of privacy regarding scanning and recording license plate numbers at certain intersections in order to catch red-light scofflaws, I’m surprised that no one has voiced an objection to the fact that at LAX parking lots, the receipt you receive when you exit and pay the parking fee has your license plate number printed on the bottom of the receipt along with the date and exact time of exit.
While placing cameras at high-risk intersections may have the potential to cut down on accidents, there is no equivalent redeeming social value in recording the license plate numbers of parking lot customers. I would like to know the reasoning behind this practice and, for that matter, whether it is even legal.
