Hearing on Restarting 2 Generators Is Postponed
A hearing on restarting two gas-fired generators at the AES power plant in Huntington Beach has been postponed until Aug. 14.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a permit in May allowing the project to go forward, but that permit has been appealed by Huntington Beach and AES Corp. The public hearing, set for today, was delayed to give the three parties--the city, the power generator and the air-quality district--time to keep negotiating.
At issue is a permit condition requiring the company to sell within California at least half of the energy produced. If the company fails to meet that condition, it would lose state pollution “credits” required to restart the generators.
