Irishman Deported After Visiting Rebel Region
Colombia deported an Irish citizen who had been in a rebel safe haven, putting him aboard a flight to neighboring Venezuela.
Kevin Crennan had been detained Wednesday, two weeks after the military arrested three Irishmen at Bogota’s airport and accused them of being Irish Republican Army members who gave explosives training to Colombia’s leftist guerrillas.
Crennan told reporters that he had gone to the safe haven “to find out what it’s like there.”
He said authorities found that he had committed no violations.
The government did not immediately comment.
