Lepisto Following Father’s Footsteps
Garrett Lepisto isn’t a captain like his dad. He isn’t a standout defensive end like his dad.
But he’s a Bruin. He’s the holder on kicks. And his dad is proud.
Vic Lepisto played during the glory years of 1966 and ‘67, when UCLA was 16-3-1.
“I think Garrett has proven himself,” Vic said. “This is a good start for him.”
Garrett, a 6-foot-2 sophomore walk-on safety from Agoura High, was recruited by smaller schools as a receiver and defensive back. But there was no question where he would go.
“I’ve always been a Bruin, there’s UCLA gear all over our house,” he said. “I’m happy. I wish I was doing more. But I still have a couple years to come.”

UCLA practiced in helmets and shorts for an hour Saturday and will take today off. Preparation for Saturday’s opener at Alabama begins next week.
“They have a new coach and are keeping pretty quiet about what they are doing,” Coach Bob Toledo said. “We’re studying the TCU offense and North Carolina defense.”
Alabama Coach Dennis Franchione was coach at Texas Christian the last three years and defensive coordinator Carl Torbush was head coach at North Carolina the last three years.
