The Parade Passes This Game By

The BCS national championship game will be played at 5 p.m. in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 3, but it will not be the Rose Bowl. As everyone knows, the Rose Bowl, featuring the champions of the Big Ten and the Pac-10, is played on New Year’s Day at 2 p.m., after the Rose Parade.

[This year,] one team is the champion of a second-rate conference, and the other finished third in theirs, but they have often led the nation in criminal arrests.

The traditional Rose Bowl would feature two 10-1 teams with the winner having as much right as anyone to the national championship, even though the Illini got a three-touchdown whacking from Michigan. But wait, didn’t one of the B(C)S teams just get whacked by more than that? The Rose Bowl Committee sold out and will be rewarded with many perks, but they also got their noses rubbed in it and the smell of the latter will remain long after the B(C)S perpetrators have left town.

Enough is enough. Neither the players nor fans invented the BCS, but until something better comes along, accept it and move on.
