Chaminade Gets the Drop on Loyola

Welcome to the demolition derby known as the Mission League, where the four top teams keep knocking each other off, leaving it anyone’s guess who’s going to finish on top.

The latest example came Wednesday night at Chaminade High. Scott Borchart had 20 points and 16 rebounds to help the Eagles rout Loyola, 59-41.

Chaminade (15-8, 6-4 in league play) has come up with a scenario where the league ends in a four-way tie. It could happen if the Eagles win their remaining two games and Notre Dame (18-5, 6-3), Loyola (15-6, 6-3) and Crespi (17-5, 7-2) keep beating each other.

Loyola shot 32% against Chaminade’s tough man defense. The Cubs’ best shooters, Omar Wilkes and Matt Llewellyn, were a combined five for 20. Wilkes got off only two shots in the second half and finished with nine points.

Jordan O’Gilvie supported Borchart with 12 points.

Chaminade outscored the Cubs, 15-4, in the second quarter to open a four-point halftime lead and led by 23 points in the fourth quarter.

“You have four really good teams that are going to the playoffs and will do damage,” Coach Jeff Young of Chaminade said.
