Girl Who Hit Truck in Serious Condition
A 10-year-old Moorpark girl struck by a vehicle after buying ice cream from a truck Friday afternoon improved to serious condition Saturday.
Nikki Atkins was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles Friday night, authorities said, because Simi Valley Hospital doesn’t have a pediatric unit.
Childrens Hospital spokesman Steve Rutledge said she has a skull fracture, but her condition had improved and she was taken off life support Saturday.
The girl ran into traffic after she and her parents bought ice cream from a truck, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. She hit the right side of a pickup truck heading north on Butter Creek Road in Moorpark.
