BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
In the Freeway League:
No. 8 Sonora 63, La Habra 49--Robert Abreu scored 13 points for host Sonora (24-3, 10-0), which led at halftime, 32-20. Sean McDonough had 12 points for La Habra (11-16, 2-8).
Fullerton 50, Buena Park 45--Fullerton (18-9, 5-5) won its second game of the week to overtake the Coyotes and finish third. Jack Thomson led the Indians with 16 points. Eugene Ikahihifo scored 14 points for Buena Park (8-18, 4-6).
Sunny Hills 56, Troy 53 (OT)--Adam Castillo made two free throws with four seconds remaining in overtime to give host Sunny Hills (17-9, 6-4) a three-point lead, but Troy (12-15, 3-7) did not get a shot in the final seconds.
Nate Gilkes, who had 17 points, scored in the final 10 seconds of regulation to make it 50-50, sending the game into overtime for Troy.
In the South Coast League:
No. 3 Capistrano Valley 67, Trabuco Hills 50--Brian Mallon and Pete DeCasas each scored 17 points for host Capistrano Valley (23-3, 10-0).
No. 4 El Toro 50, Dana Hills 45--Trailing by four points going into the fourth quarter, El Toro outscored Dana Hills, 18-8, to win. El Toro’s Ashkan Nazeri came back after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the opening minutes of the first quarter to score all 11 of his points in the second half. Matt Green had 18 points and 13 rebounds for El Toro (23-3, 8-2).
Travis Nelson had 16 points for Dana Hills (9-15, 0-10).
Mission Viejo 59, San Clemente 57--After a hard drive up the middle, Greg Villanueva scored with less than two seconds remaining to help Mission Viejo clinch a third place position in the South Coast League playoffs.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 44, Edison 40--Mark Lovein’s 15 points and 16 rebounds led host Esperanza (12-14, 5-5), which will play Marina in a third-place playoff today.
Fountain Valley 50, Marina 44--Matt Ball made five of six free throws in the last three minutes to help host Fountain Valley (16-10, 7-3) hold off Marina (10-16, 5-5) and clinch second place.
Tucker Fendon had 19 points and Kevin Edmunds had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Barons.
In a nonleague game:
Acaciawood 56, Tarbut V’Torah 48--Aaron Marks led visiting Acaciawood (14-6) with 22 points. Noam Dashti had 15 points and 17 rebounds for Tarbut V’Torah (20-2).
