El Dorado Girls Stop Woodbridge
Darci Gwartz scored the winning goal five minutes into overtime Friday to give visiting El Dorado a 3-2 victory over third-seeded Woodbridge in the first round of the Southern Section Division II girls’ soccer playoffs. Gwartz scored on a header off a free kick by Stacy Ellingson.
Woodbridge (14-2-5) led, 1-0, at the half when Christene Johnson scored her first of two goals.
El Dorado (15-8-3) took the lead on second-half goals by Vanessa Chanez and Robin Bennett. But Johnson scored in the 80th minute to make it 2-2 and send the game into overtime.
Johnson had a chance to put Woodbridge ahead on a penalty kick in the second half, but El Dorado goalkeeper Tawnya Patino, who had 13 saves, stopped the shot.
El Dorado plays Walnut Tuesday.
