Tri-Valley, Frontier to Combine
The Frontier and Tri-Valley leagues are on the verge of approving a proposal that would link the league’s 10 boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams.
The teams would be separated into two divisions based on two previous years of athletic results.
The Tri-Valley League would contain the strongest of the teams. For example, based on the last two years, the Tri-Valley football league would include St. Bonaventure, Nordhoff, Santa Paula, Oak Park and Carpinteria.
The Frontier would include Oaks Christian, Fillmore, Santa Clara, Bishop Diego and Malibu. Oaks Christian is replacing Calabasas, which is moving to the Marmonte League.
The leagues could be different from sport to sport. The team with the worst record in the Tri-Valley would drop to the Frontier after two years, with the best team from the Frontier moving to the Tri-Valley.
Athletic director Marc Groff of St. Bonaventure said the proposal received strong backing last month and could be approved when athletic directors and principals meet Wednesday at St. Bonaventure.
* Oaks Christian is installing Astro-Play, a 2 1/2-inch synthetic grass turf, on its lower fields for baseball, softball and soccer.
The city of Westlake Village has signed a 10-year agreement with Oaks Christian to use the fields at night for youth sports and help with the upkeep of the fields.
SOCCER
* Hart High defender and Times’ All-Region selection Dee Dee Sanguinetti has committed to Fresno State.
* Lauren Nussbaum, captain of Chaminade’s girls’ team, has made a commitment to Columbia.
