Little Tokyo Event Celebrates New Year
The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center will continue its New Year 2001 Celebration with a free day of family events Sunday in Little Tokyo.
Called “Kotohajime: The First Performances of the New Year,” the day will feature butoh dance by internationally acclaimed dancer Oguri, a Zen archery purification ritual by L.A.’s Kyudo Kai archery group, gagaku music performed by the group Kinnara, the opening of the third annual “Shikishi” art exhibit of ceremonial greeting cards, a children’s paper snake-making workshop and a celebratory sake toast to the new year.
The events will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center, 244 S. San Pedro St., downtown Los Angeles.
