Two San Fernando Valley domestic violence shelters were among five recognized recently by Los Angeles County Supervisors for outstanding service to women and children.

The Didi Hirsch Via Avanta Domestic Violence Program in Pacoima, Valley Oasis Shelter in Antelope Valley and three others, one from each supervisorial district, were chosen from the more than 88 shelters in the county to be honored at the second annual Domestic Violence Shelter Awards held in downtown Los Angeles. Each center received $200 from the Los Angeles County Commission for Women.

The commission also held a countywide donation drive for used or new clothing for women in transition, said Twila Kerr, a commission staff member.

The commission was created in 1975 to advise county agencies on issues affecting the lives of women.
