Hart Girls Forfeit Tie Over Ineligible Player
The Hart High girls’ soccer team must forfeit Wednesday’s 1-1 tie with Saugus because of an ineligible player and might have to forfeit other games the player participated in, Vice Principal Collyn Nielsen said.
Sophomore midfielder Belinda Alarcon was declared ineligible to play varsity soccer by the William S. Hart Union School District on Thursday, Nielsen said.
Alarcon played varsity soccer at Valencia last season. She was cut from the Vikings’ squad this season and transferred to Hart, where she made the junior varsity team and later was called up to the varsity.
Nielsen said Alarcon was cleared by the Southern Section to play varsity soccer, but the school district adopted a new rule this season making inter-district transfers ineligible for varsity play for one year.
Nielsen said it is unclear if the Indians must forfeit all games that Alarcon participated in this season.
Hart, ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times, fell to 7-5-2, 0-1 in Foothill League play.
