Well, at Least They Got One Martinez Back
I would like to apologize for my letter of two weeks ago criticizing Dodger General Manager Kevin Malone. I had no idea that he was planning on re-signing Ramon Martinez. Fifth starter was obviously the Dodgers’ biggest weakness, so that should solve everything.
Hey, Kevin, I just read in The Times this week that Fernando Valenzuela is tearing up the Mexican Winter League. I bet you could lure him with $5 million or so.
P.S. I take it all back if you pull the trigger on a deal for Johnny Damon, a player who might actually help your dismal club.

Ramon Martinez is just what the Dodgers need; an ERA of 6.13, and the ability to spend more time on injured reserve than the mound. What, Fernando couldn’t get out of his contract in Mexico?

My inside sources assure me that the Dodgers turned to Ramon Martinez only after negotiations with Dave Goltz broke down.

Is Bill Stoneman out there somewhere? Teams are making moves and the Angels are parked in the garage again. I know! He’s working on a blockbuster trade to send Tim Salmon and Mo Vaughn to the Marlins for a no-name shortstop and backup catcher, right?
