Senior forward Elton Mashack has put together consecutive strong outings in losses to UC Santa Barbara and Nevada Las Vegas. He had 16 points and six rebounds against UCSB and 17 points and 10 rebounds against the Rebels. Lion center Pablo Machado will miss his fourth consecutive game because of a strained hip and may not be ready until the second week of West Coast Conference play. Steve Fisher, the former Michigan coach, has begun to make an impact in his second season. The Aztecs’ 84-70 victory over Texas A&M; Corpus Christi matched their win total from the last two seasons combined. They also have victories over Oklahoma State and Arizona State.
