Jacob Leads El Dorado Past Diamond Bar in Overtime

Melissa Jacob scored 12 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as El Dorado won at Diamond Bar, 55-50, in nonleague girls’ basketball Friday night.

Jacob scored seven points in the extra period for the Golden Hawks, who scored 13 in the four-minute period after scoring no more than 12 in any of the first four quarters.

Jacob also had six assists, including a pass to Carly Wade, whose basket at the buzzer in regulation tied the score at 42-42. Wade had nine points and 12 rebounds.

El Dorado, which led by 12 points in the first half, trailed by four with 1 minute 12 seconds remaining. The Golden Hawks (12-4) snapped a two-game losing streak. Diamond Bar dropped to 10-5.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 53, El Modena 40--Kelly Shimizu scored 20 points and Lauren Yadon added 15 for the Spartans (8-8, 1-0), who trailed by one at halftime. Norrelle Dickson scored 15 points for El Modena (5-8, 0-1).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 46, Brethren Christian 40--Monica Schulte scored 15 points for the Lancers (12-4, 1-0), who were held to two points in the fourth quarter. Heather Spowart had 16 for Brethren Christian (12-4, 0-1).

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

No. 4 El Dorado 1, Servite 0--Jay Larsen’s goal eight minutes into the game was the difference for El Dorado (11-1-2). James Towers made seven saves for Servite (7-5-2).

Newport Harbor 1, Edison 0--Adam Kerns scored off an opponent’s deflection in the 47th minute for the Sailors (1-3-3). Edison (4-4-3) opted not to play the final 19 minutes after Jarod Zitt suffered a concussion in a collision with the Newport Harbor goalkeeper.

Sonora 3, Anaheim 2--Kyle Warsinski scored the game-winner in the 66th minute for the Raiders (8-3), who also received goals from Mike Dacuycuy and Alan Valdez. Leo Mata and Israel Medrano scored for Anaheim (2-9).

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

No. 4 Woodbridge 3, Trabuco Hills 1--Christene Johnson scored in the first and last minutes of the first half for visiting Woodbridge (8-1-3), helping the Warriors build a 3-0 halftime lead.

Woodbridge’s Erin Cover also scored in the first half and Ina Kain assisted on both of Johnson’s goals.
