GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
In another Empire League game:
Kennedy 49, Cypress 47--Jessalynn Calumpong missed a 10-foot jumper with three seconds remaining but rebounded her own miss and made the follow-up shot at the buzzer to give visiting Kennedy (11-8, 2-1) the win. Calumpong finished with 22 points, including four three-pointers.
Cypress freshman Nicole Nishinaka connected on a three-pointer with 28 seconds remaining in the game to tie the score, 47-47. Nishinaka finished with 10 points. Remy Hitomi led Cypress (9-9, 1-2) with 12 points.
In the Academy League:
St. Margaret’s 76, Fairmont 62--Monique Kettler scored a county-high 51 points and pulled down 26 rebounds for St. Margaret’s (7-5, 2-1).
Kettler, who scored 47 points against Connelly last Tuesday, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Tartans outscored Fairmont, 16-2, the final 4:58 of the game. Kettler had 27 points in the first half and 24 in the second.
Sonia Hilson scored 26 points for Fairmont (6-7, 0-3) before fouling out.
Freshman Sara Kettler, Monique’s sister, had 10 points and 10 rebounds for St. Margaret’s.
In the Century League:
Villa Park 63, Santa Ana Valley 37--Kelly Shimizu scored 25 points and Lauren Yadon had 16 points and nine rebounds for visiting Villa Park (11-8, 4-0), which outscored Santa Ana Valley, 34-16, in the first half.
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 43, Cerritos Valley Christian 40--Shayna Fabre made two free throws with seven seconds remaining in the game to give visiting Calvary Chapel (11-8, 4-0) the margin of victory.
Calvary Chapel entered the fourth quarter trailing, 39-32, but outscored Valley Christian, 11-1, in the fourth quarter to remain unbeaten in league.
In the Orange League:
No. 3 Brea Olinda 90, Savanna 21--Jackie Lord made seven out of eight shots for 17 points. She also had four assists and four steals for Brea (11-4, 2-0).
In the South Coast League:
No. 2 San Clemente 71, Dana Hills 29--Lindsey Pluimer had 18 points and 10 rebounds for visiting San Clemente (16-3, 3-0), which opened a 43-11 halftime lead. Kim Buffum had 11 points and seven assists for San Clemente.
In the Sunset League:
No. 7 Edison 38, Marina 32--Trailing by seven points after the first quarter, Edison outscored Marina, 11-2, in the second quarter and never trailed again. Bianca Ziemann led the Chargers (15-4, 3-0) with 10 points, while Kara Congelliere scored 15 for Marina (10-9, 1-2).
No. 1 Esperanza 56, Huntington Beach 39--Lindsey Helvey and Ashley Van Kurin scored 13 points apiece and Bethany Blair added 12 for the host Aztecs (15-4, 3-0). Amy Sanders scored 20 points and Bethany Shaw had 15 for Huntington Beach (9-8, 1-2).
