Chilean judges postponed a ruling in the case of Gen. Augusto Pinochet because they could not agree on whether the former dictator should be spared trial because of his failing health.

A three-judge panel had been set to rule on the issue Tuesday, but the decision was postponed for at least a week.

Pinochet, 85, is charged with covering up abuses by a military death squad after his 1973 coup. He has denied responsibility.

Pinochet suffers from diabetes and arthritis, has a pacemaker and has had at least three mild strokes since 1998, according to his doctors.
