A Model Citizen Who Wasn’t Gripped by Vices
I would just like to say thanks to Tony Gwynn for being the great baseball player that he was, and thanks for being the great class act that he still is. It is a breath of fresh air to have a professional athlete who is not mired in controversy and scandal. And it is especially impressive to see a professional athlete who has shown loyalty to his team and to that city.
Unfortunately, we will always read or hear about the athlete who would rather give in to his personal vices, [instead of] the one who stands alone as a role model, both personally and professionally. So to Tony Gwynn, I say thank you and enjoy retirement. You deserve it.
