Woman, 55, Killed After Vehicle Runs Red Light
A 55-year-old Oxnard woman was killed after the vehicle she was in was struck by a speeding sport utility vehicle that ran a red light, authorities said Monday.
A 1998 Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 20-year-old Oxnard man was going 90 to 100 mph when it went through a red light at Rice Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard on Sunday afternoon, said Officer Dave Webb of the California Highway Patrol.
The Pathfinder crashed into two vehicles that were turning on a green arrow, then clipped a car stopped at the other side of the intersection, Webb said.
Maria Jesus Rosas Reyes, a passenger in the back seat of one of the vehicles in the turn lane, was pronounced dead at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. She had not been wearing a seat belt, Webb said.
Enrique Reyes, 32, of Oxnard, who was driving the car, and Felix Mendez, 29, who was in another car, were treated for injuries at St. John’s and released.
The driver of the Pathfinder had not been charged as of Monday afternoon, Webb said.
