Starzz Get First Win at Houston
Marie Ferdinand scored 16 points to lead the Utah Starzz to a 76-67 victory Tuesday night over the Houston Comets before 12,177 at Houston.
Natalie Williams scored 15 points, and Adrienne Goodson added 13 for the Starzz, who have won five of eight. Utah is tied with Portland for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Starzz (10-11) won for the first time in Houston and defeated the Comets for only the second time in the series, dating to 1997.
The Comets (15-7) could not take advantage of guard Janeth Arcain’s season-high 29 points.
Portland 86, New York 68--Sophia Witherspoon scored 15 points and Jackie Stiles had 14 as the Fire defeated the Liberty before 8,038 at Portland, Ore.
Seattle 74, Detroit 69--Jamie Redd scored five points in overtime and Lauren Jackson had a season-high 25 as the Storm ended a seven-game losing streak before 4,323 at Seattle.
Orlando 71, Washington 63--Nykesha Sales scored 20 points and Taj McWilliams-Franklin had 13 points as the Miracle won before 5,878 at Orlando, Fla.
Charlotte 75, Indiana 66--Dawn Staley scored six of her 18 points during a key 11-0 spurt and the Sting won before 4,360 at Charlotte, N.C.
