Lakers Open Title Defense Oct. 30 Against Trail Blazers
The Lakers, aiming for a third consecutive NBA championship, will open the season Oct. 30 against the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center, it was announced Thursday.
The Clippers begin their season the same night against the San Antonio Spurs at San Antonio. They play their Staples Center opener Nov. 3 against the Golden State Warriors.
Michael Jordan, if he decides to come out of retirement, will make his debut with the Washington Wizards on Oct. 30 at New York. The Wizards will play at Staples Center on Feb. 12 against the Lakers and on March 13 against the Clippers.
The Lakers, who will receive their championship rings in a ceremony before their opener, will play the Philadelphia 76ers in a rematch of the NBA Finals on Dec. 25 at Staples Center.
The Christmas Day game is the first of 11 Laker games that will be televised by NBC, which will also show the Laker-76er game at Philadelphia on Jan. 27. The Clippers will not be shown on NBC but will make two TBS appearances.
The Lakers and Clippers will play three doubleheaders at Staples Center, the Clippers featured in matinees Nov. 18, Nov. 25 and Dec. 16.
The Clippers and the NHL’s Kings share Staples Center on seven dates, the Clippers playing the nightcap five times. And the Lakers and Kings will both play at Staples Center on Dec. 1, the Kings playing the matinee.
