Officers Posing as Dealers Sting Seven Posing as Cops
MIAMI — Seven drug trafficking suspects posing as police officers have been caught in a sting by cops posing as drug dealers, police said Friday.
The suspects, wearing T-shirts bearing police insignias, turned up Thursday night in an industrial area northwest of Miami to make a drug deal with Miami-Dade County police officers wearing street clothes, department spokesman Rudy Espinosa said.
The men fled when a police special weapons team appeared. Two were immediately apprehended but several drove into a parking lot and nearly ran over pursuing officers, Espinosa said. Two of the suspects were wounded by police gunfire.
The suspects apparently showed up to buy cocaine, then planned to rip off the undercover cops, Espinosa said.
They were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed burglary, armed trafficking and attempted murder of law enforcement officers but had not been identified by Friday.
Officers sustained minor injuries.
