7 TONIGHT ARROWHEAD POND

Second-seeded Corona Centennial will try to beat a Monarch team that treats Southern Section championships like entitlements. Top-seeded Mater Dei is on the brink of its third consecutive section title and ninth in 10 years, but will face a stiff test against the Huskies. New Mexico-bound forward Jamaal Williams is Centennial’s top scoring threat, and forwards Lance and Erik Soderberg, who transferred from Mater Dei in January 2000, will be eager to show their old teammates how much they’ve improved. The Huskies, making their first title-game appearance, may also have the emotional edge. And Monarch Coach Gary McKnight said he is concerned about Centennial’s height and depth. Swingmen Bryan Williams and Bryan Gonzales came off the bench to combine for 27 points in the Huskies’ semifinal victory over Villa Park. But all those factors may not be enough to stop Monarch guard Cedric Bozeman and center Jamal Sampson, who have plowed through every other section opponent Mater Dei has faced.
