Church Benefits the Neighborhood

* Re “Church Expansion May Worsen Roads,’ Letters, Feb. 25:

The Our Lady Queen of Angels proposed expansion simply trades Presbyterian traffic for Catholic traffic, nothing more.

Besides, a little traffic is a small price to pay for the benefits Queen of Angels brings to churchgoers, neighbors and community. Patricia Krone, who apparently lives nearby, can observe and perhaps receive some of the benefits of the church if she will walk over and visit on a Sunday morning. She will be welcomed, as everyone is. She can enjoy the music, if nothing else. (For this, I recommend the 10 a.m. Mass or perhaps the 11:30.) She will, I think, appreciate the sermons, which are often humorous, usually enlightening and always upbeat.

The church raises money for the homeless, the poor, the sick, the handicapped, earthquake victims and others. It has programs designed to assist single parents, divorced people, teens and young adults and seniors.

It educates children who otherwise would attend public schools, while the parents of those children continue paying taxes to support public schools their children do not attend.

Our Lady Queen of Angels is exceptional. The people of Newport Beach should let it bloom.
