No one will know how close the Ducks came to playing against the Kings without Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne.
Kariya did not practice Saturday after complaining of “fatigue,” according to Coach Guy Charron. Selanne’s participation wasn’t determined until moments before the opening faceoff. He did not play in the last two games because of what the club called a “bruised left knee.”
Both were in the lineup and helped the Ducks end a four-game losing streak. Kariya had two goals and an assist and Selanne had a goal and two assists in the Ducks’ 4-0 victory.
“I was really worn down,” Kariya said. “I’ve got a bit of a virus. I wasn’t feeling up to par the last two or three games. It was nice to get some rest.”
Said Selanne: “I felt good enough to skate with one leg. I felt pretty good. No problems at all. [Scoring a first-period goal] helped more than ultrasound.”

Charron had no doubts about starting Jean-Sebastien Giguere instead of Guy Hebert against the Kings. Hebert is 8-3-2 with a 1.90 goals-against average against the Kings since 1998-99. Giguere had lost four in a row, including a 5-2 defeat Friday against the Dallas Stars.
“It’s ‘Jiggy,’ ” Charron said. “We have a game plan here to give him an opportunity and he’s getting the opportunity. When he’s had an off performance, he’s come back and played extremely well. That’s a credit to him.”
Giguere made 25 saves for his second shutout in six games. He has started 10 consecutive games. Hebert has been mentioned in several recent trade rumors.
