Orange Coast Beats Cypress on Beerer’s Home Run in 10th
Scott Beerer homered with two out in the top of the 10th inning to give Orange Coast a 12-11 victory over Cypress Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game at Cypress College.
Beerer’s home run came after Cypress (14-6, 4-3) scored four runs in the ninth to tie the score, 11-11. Wes Strader’s two-out, two-run single was the big hit.
Cypress’ Sal DeAnda, who was four for four, grounded into a double play to end the game.
Glenn Hedgpeth, who pitched the final two innings and got the win, hit a three-run home run and Ryan Marcos had four hits and two RBIs for the Pirates.
In other conference games:
Saddleback 9, Fullerton 6--Jon Stephens pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings in relief to get the victory for visiting Saddleback (5-2, 16-4).
Santa Ana 8, Riverside 7--Joe Rogers (5-1) struck out nine and pitched a complete game as the Dons (16-3, 6-1) moved into first place. Riverside is 19-2-1, 4-2-1.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Cypress 1, Fullerton 0--Kim Martinez hit a check-swing double down the right-field line, went to third on Lolani Alvarez’s bunt, then later scored on an error for Cypress (6-5, 4-2). Fullerton is 20-6, 5-1.
Santa Ana 7, Golden West 0--Marie Caballero (7-1) pitched the first no-hitter for Santa Ana (16-5, 6-1) since 1997. Teammate April Weisner had a triple and two RBIs.
