Hope International Splits Softball Doubleheader

Sarah Yarbrough’s seventh-inning double put the Hope International softball team in position for a split of its doubleheader with visiting The Master’s College.

Kim Rader moved to third on Yarbrough’s double and scored on an error as Hope International won, 3-2. The Master’s won the first game, 8-2.

Alicia Fazio hit her second home run and Jody Richards (4-5) earned the victory.

Hope International is 6-12; The Master’s is 12-6.

In a Golden State Athletic Conference game:

Concordia 5-8, Cal Baptist 1-0--Concordia is riding a nine-game winning streak after beating Cal Baptist in a home doubleheader. After a 1-9 start, the Eagles have won 14 of their last 16 games.

Andrea Castillo pitched a complete game in the opener, giving up one run on four hits and striking out four for Concordia. She also hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to put the Eagles in the lead.

In exhibition baseball:

Cal State Fullerton 14, Hosei University (Japan) 5--Mike Rouse and Shawn Norris each had two hits, two RBIs and two runs and Aaron Rifkin doubled twice for host Cal State Fullerton. The Titans gave up four unearned runs in the first inning, but scored nine times in the first three innings and added five more in the fifth.
