Three Men Rob Bank Branch Inside Market
Police searched for three men who robbed a supermarket bank branch Thursday morning, authorities said.
The robbers ordered shoppers and employees to the floor at gunpoint about 10:15 a.m. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, said Lt. Horace Frank, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department. The incident took place at a Washington Mutual branch inside a Ralphs supermarket in the 14000 block of Ventura Boulevard.
Shortly after the robbery, in the 14000 block of Moorpark Street, officers found a stolen Chrysler minivan believed to have been used in the robbery, Frank said.
Officers also found two handguns thought to belong to the robbers, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to FBI statistics, there were 75 robberies at supermarket bank branches in the seven Southern California counties last year.
On Feb. 5, three suspects shot and killed Ignacio David Delgado, a 51-year-old Brinks guard, as he delivered money to a cash machine inside a crowded Valley Glen supermarket. The incident occurred inside the Albertsons supermarket at the Victory Plaza shopping center in the 1300 block of Victory Boulevard.
