Boater Dies of Apparent Heart Attack
A San Clemente man believed to be in his early 30s died of an apparent heart attack Sunday afternoon while sailing off Dana Point, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
The man was identified as Mark Howard, though no other details were immediately available, said Orange County Fire Capt. Kirk Summers.
Summers said paramedics were ferried to the sailboat on the Orange County Sheriff’s Department boat.
Once they reached the sailboat, the paramedics used an automatic external defibrillator and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to try to revive the victim, Summer said. They were unsuccessful, he added.
Details on whether the victim had a history of heart trouble were unavailable. --JENNIFER MENA
