Defining Social Security

* I was angered by Robert Rosenblatt calling Social Security a “giant social welfare program” (March 20). The Social Security system is a trust fund, funded by taxpayers and their employers who pay into it. Not one cent of general revenue money has ever been spent on this program. To the contrary, past Congresses have misappropriated over $295 billion to fund real welfare programs and pork barrel projects.
