Woman Killed by Swerving Pickup
A woman was killed when a truck swerved onto the divider on the southbound Ventura Freeway and hit her, authorities said.
Martin Perez, 35, of Oxnard, was driving a GMC pickup southbound on the freeway Thursday evening when he swerved to avoid slowing traffic at the California 126 interchange. He hit several women who had pulled to the side of the road to discuss a car accident.
Nickoel Egizi, 21, of Oxnard was taken to St. John’s Medical Center in Oxnard, where she died. Debra Hanna, 39, of Newbury Park and Susan Rhonda Tucker, 39, of Thousand Oaks were also hurt. Hanna was treated and released from Ventura County Medical Center, where Tucker remained in stable condition.
Officials are investigating the incident and no charges have been filed, said Officer David Songer of the California Highway Patrol.
