Weekends Will Never Be the Same
Gee, I can’t understand why Claudia Trejos “did not return” Larry Stewart’s phone call about her being let go by KTLA. Maybe it had something to do with Stewart previously writing things like, “[Trejos] can’t read English,” that her segments required “closed captioning,” and that her first telecast was “hands down, the worst debut in the history of Los Angeles sports broadcasting.”
I know Stewart was all busted up when Trejos replaced his buddy Ed Arnold (“there will be a public outcry,” he insisted at the time), but his criticism of Trejos went far beyond what could be called proportionate, let alone tasteful. Some of us out here don’t mind hearing “Kobe Bryant” pronounced with a charming--and, after all, familiar--accent.

Claudia Trejos, who knows as much about basketball as T.J. Simers does hockey, finally will lose her job as the weekend sportscaster for Channel 5. I can’t help but wonder if Jim Esterbrooks had anything to do with this. If the station rehires the capable and qualified Ed Arnold to replace her, the circle will indeed be complete.
