Fetal Rights
Re “A Question of Fetal Rights, or Politics?” May 28: “Is a fetus a person?” I believe a giant step toward clarifying the answer to this question is to acknowledge that if the fetus is a person, the parents of such a person should receive a tax deduction. Then we can put a price on everyone’s moral position, a distinctly modern, capitalist view. If abortions are illegal at any fetal age, then the tax deduction should start at the moment of conception.

The upshot of the article on fetal rights should be troubling to both pro-choice and pro-life people: A woman has the right to decide whether her fetus is a “person” or not. I don’t think you can have it both ways.
