Worker Pinned Between Train, Truck Badly Hurt
A railroad worker was in critical condition Wednesday after being crushed between a moving freight train and a big-rig just after midnight, police said.
The accident in the 2400 block of East Sepulveda Boulevard near Alameda Street happened as the worker--described as being in his late 20s--hung off the back of the train to make sure the way was clear as the locomotive backed up, said LAPD South Traffic Investigator Nate Curry.
For reasons that have not been determined, a big-rig was parked across the tracks, Curry said. The worker was pinned between the train and the truck, suffering internal injuries, he said. An investigation was underway to determine who was at fault, Curry said. A Cal-OSHA investigation would also be started, he said.
