The Emmys at Last, Even in the 7th Inning Stretch
Finally, they’re over and done with. Guess what? Nothing happened. No terrorist attacks, no hidden bombs, nothing.
Did anyone seriously think something would? The media wanted us to believe that the Emmys and the people involved were more important than me or other people in this country. That it was OK to run and hide because they were scared.
It’s OK to be scared, but the moment you hide, you lose. Which is what the Emmys did--lose all respect, at least to this American, who was scared, as we all were, but who will never hide and let the enemy win.

I thought Ellen DeGeneres was the perfect hostess for this year’s Emmy Awards (“No Errors, Lots of Hits,” by Howard Rosenberg, Nov. 5). I loved her sense of humor, her opening monologue. She made me laugh.
The closing of Barbra Streisand singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” (such a meaningful, beautiful song even in the best of times) was the perfect ending.
The fact that the Judy Garland miniseries won a total of five awards also made me feel good. The greatest entertainer in my lifetime is still around.

I was disgusted at Fox’s decision to flash the Emmy winners across the bottom of the screen during the seventh World Series game. Fox claims it was just providing a news service; however, it was obvious that this was a thinly disguised ploy to prevent East Coast and Midwest viewers from switching channels and to discourage West Coast viewers from watching the three-hour tape-delayed broadcast of the Emmys following the game.
Sweeps or no sweeps, it was a classless decision by Fox, and demonstrated that the station that brings us “Temptation Island” and “Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire?” continues to live down to its reputation.

You reported that it was the decision of David Hill, chairman and CEO of Fox Sports Television Group, to update viewers of Emmy winners during the World Series game and that “the network did not receive any complaints from viewers.”
Surely he jests! Didn’t anyone from KTTV inform anyone in his office of all the calls they were getting from upset viewers? I was one of those callers. I spoke with a very weary woman who told me there was nothing she could do about it. From the tone of her voice, I got the impression I was not the only caller.
Shame on Fox for ruining my Sunday evening.
