Understanding Haydn

During the recording of the Haydn quartets, the Angeles String Quartet presented a large number of them in a series of concerts at the Gilbert Concerts at LACMA (“Respected Angeles Quartet Is Bowing Out,” Nov. 9). I believe I attended every one of these exclusively Haydn concerts, and through them I gained a knowledge and appreciation of these miraculous works, which also means I gained knowledge and insight into the essence of the string quartet itself.
