Districts Buy Low-Emission School Buses
Less-polluting school buses mandated by air quality officials this year will begin picking up Orange County students as soon as next spring, officials said Friday.
Six school districts have received more than $3 million in grants to buy 18 natural-gas-powered buses and 16 lower-emission-diesel versions. The districts must supplement the grants with funds of their own.
Garden Grove Unified this week decided to buy eight natural-gas-powered buses that are expected to arrive in the spring.
Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified plans to buy four natural-gas buses and Fullerton Joint Union High School District, six. The Anaheim Union High School District received grants for 12 low-sulfur-diesel buses. The Anaheim City and Newport-Mesa districts got money to buy two each.
