Hurricanes Put End to Sharks’ Streak, 3-2
Rod Brind’Amour scored with 2:25 left as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated San Jose, 3-2, Friday night at Raleigh, N.C., to end the Sharks’ season-high six-game unbeaten streak.
Jeff O’Neill and Sami Kapanen also scored for the Hurricanes.
Carolina is 4-0-1 in its last five and extended its lead in the Southeast Division to 11 points over Washington.
San Jose trailed, 1-0, after one period but scored twice in the second on power play goals to head into the third tied, 2-2.
Vincent Damphousse and Marco Sturm scored for the Pacific-leading Sharks.
Chicago 3, Vancouver 1--Mark Bell and Phil Housley scored 26 seconds apart in the second period to extend the Blackhawks’ home unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Tony Amonte added an empty-net goal with 23 seconds left and Jocelyn Thibault stopped 22 shots for the Blackhawks, who are off to their best start at home since 1971-72.
Edmonton 3, Columbus 0--Tommy Salo stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season as the Oilers won at Columbus, Ohio.
Ryan Smyth, Daniel Cleary and Marty Reasoner scored.
Phoenix 5, Dallas 1--Shane Doan’s power-play goal late in the first period was the first of five unanswered goals, leading the Coyotes to the victory at Dallas to end their four-game winless streak.
Krystofer Kolanos and Claude Lemieux scored second-period goals.
New Jersey 3, Toronto 2--Patrik Elias scored his third consecutive goal in overtime as the Devils overcame a two-goal deficit to beat the Maple Leafs at East Rutherford, N.J.
