In girls’ volleyball:
Long Beach Poly def. Upland, 15-13, 14-16, 5-15, 15-13, 15-3--Jennifer Randall had 38 kills and Cynthia Buggs had 27 kills for the top-seeded Jackrabbits (24-4) in a Division I-AA quarterfinal match at Upland.
The eighth-seeded Highlanders (22-6) took leads of 6-1 and 12-7 in game four, but couldn’t finish off the defending section champions. Poly evened the match on a block by Erikka Watts and Emmanuella Kariotis.
Rally scoring was used in game five, and Poly took a 10-0 lead.
“They wanted to win as much as we did, but we were magically able to pull through,” said Randall, a senior outside hitter.
Robin Miramontes, who committed to Long Beach State, had 22 kills for Upland.
