In cross-country:
Southern Section preliminaries--Julie Allen of Newport Beach Corona del Mar turned in the most noteworthy performance of the meet at Mt. San Antonio College when she won her Division III heat with a 17-minute 12-second clocking over the 2.9-mile course.
Allen, a senior who suffered her only loss of the season in the Division III sweepstakes race of the Mt. SAC Invitational on Oct. 20, came through the mile in 5:13 and the two-mile in 11:29 before winning by a minute and 39 seconds.
Canyon Country Canyon and Riverside Rubidoux turned in the top performances in the boys’ meet. Canyon, the second-ranked team in Harrier magazine’s national poll, defeated second-place Fountain Valley, 36-88, to win its Division I heat with a cumulative team time of 77:58, fastest in the meet. Rubidoux, the top-ranked Division II team in the state, rolled to a 38-101 victory over runner-up Bellflower St. John Bosco in its heat andposted a team time of 78:24.
