SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
Covina Northview 42, Garden Grove 27--Northview scored three touchdowns in the first seven minutes of the second half and pulled away from the Argonauts in a Division IX game at Garden Grove Bolsa Grande High.
The Vikings (9-2) held a 14-11 lead at the half, but put the score out of reach with two short touchdown runs by senior Manuel Topete and a 51-yard touchdown run by freshman Remington Hawkins, a 14-year-old playing in his second varsity game. Hawkins finished with 135 yards in eight carries.
Northview took a 7-0 lead on a 70-yard touchdown pass from Danny Bonilla to Harold Frazier late in the first quarter, the Vikings’ only completion.
Northview moved ahead, 14-3, on a 47-yard touchdown run by Hawkins early in the second quarter.
