Carter Puts Heat on Suns
PHOENIX — Vince Carter scored 31 points and Alvin Williams broke an eight-minute scoring drought with an 18-foot jumper that helped the Toronto Raptors hold off the Phoenix Suns, 87-81, Sunday night.
Carter has scored 163 points in his last four games against the Suns.
The Raptors, who won their third consecutive road game, went 8 minutes 10 seconds without a point in the fourth quarter.
Morris Peterson finished with 16 points for Toronto, Williams had 12 and Hakeem Olajuwon had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Shawn Marion had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Suns, and Stephon Marbury had 19 points and 11 assists.
The Raptors took a 19-point lead on a putback by Olajuwon with 6:03 to play in the third quarter.
But Dan Majerle made a three-point basket early in a 16-6 spurt by the Suns, and it took a three-pointer by Dell Curry for Toronto to take a 71-60 lead into the fourth quarter.
