Mormon Temple to Host Christmas Celebration
The Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host “Christmas on Temple Hill” from 7 to 8 p.m. today at 10777 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.
A team of nearly 2,000 volunteers has wrapped more than 3,000 lights on the trunks of trees, bushes and walkways.
The task took more than 6,000 hours to complete. Many of the volunteers, most ages 12 to 17, came from throughout Southern California to help usher in the holiday season.
As part of the celebration, the Southern California Mormon Choir will sing traditional Christmas songs, including the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah.” The choir will be joined by soloists Gary Castillo, Aaron Edson, Joe Paur, Marvin Perkins and Dot Todman. The choir will be under the direction of Frank Turner.
The event also will include a reading of the Nativity story as told in the New Testament and the Book of Mormon by news anchors Carlos Amezcua and Chuck Henry.
Admission and parking are free. Attendees should arrive before 6:30 p.m. to secure parking. Information: (310) 474-1549.
