Waiving Freedoms
I wonder how many people waving the flag lately really understand what it means. It is supposed to stand for the freedoms of this country as granted to us by the Constitution; yet I find that the people waving the flag most vigorously are the first ones demanding elimination of some of those freedoms, including open trials, no unreasonable search and seizure, no detention without being charged and the right to a fair trial. If those rights are denied to some of us, they can be denied to all of us. All they have to do is broaden the group of alleged “evildoers.” It happened in Nazi Germany.
